Planetizen has brought back its annual list of top apps for planners 10 years after its first appearance on the site. Planners have suggested numerous apps as examples of planning in action or tools for planning action. Over the past decade, Planetizen has conducted annual surveys to gather feedback on the apps used by planners for their daily working and living tasks. These apps include tools for scheduling meetings, note-taking, conducting meetings, mapping, modeling, and designing. Planetizen’s top apps lists have evolved, and from just a few emerging examples it has grown to a long list of apps seen on computers in offices and homes. Google Maps is the most frequently mentioned app among Planetizen readers, with Citymapper, Libby, Photos (Apple), Poll Everywhere, REINS, and Umo all making the list for the first time in 2023. Planetizen also created a compendium of planning apps that includes AllTrails, Bike Citizens, Google Maps, Hush City, iMAPS, LandGlide, Mapillary, Maps.me, OneMap, Refuge Restrooms, and Strava. Hard planning science apps such as 3D Scanner App and ArcGIS (Explorer, Collector, Navigator, Survey123, Business Analyst) have also been cited.
