Description :

The privately operated train would use existing tracks to provide overnight service.

A new California company is planning to offer first-class overnight passenger train service between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Dreamstar Lines Inc., a small Newport Beach company, is working on securing railcars, financing, staffing, and agreements needed for this service. The company hopes to offer overnight travel as a convenient alternative to traffic-jammed freeways and crowded airports.

Dreamstar is in talks with Union Pacific Railroad Co. (UP) and Southern California commuter system Metrolink, who control parts of the 470-mile route. The company would also require an agreement with the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board/Caltrain for the segment between San Jose and San Francisco.

The line may begin service by summer 2024 if Dreamstar secures funding and agreements with the rail owners. The fares for this line would range between $300 and $1,000. It’s essential to note that Dreamstar is not associated with the beleaguered California high-speed rail project, which also seeks to connect the Bay Area and Los Angeles via a new rail line that can accommodate faster trains.
